Can't boot Windows 7 on my Laptop

    Hello, Sevenforums users

My brother tweaked some things on my laptop and shutted it down. The next time I booted it was there's a black screen, along with an error message that says something along the lines of "missing or corrupt" and "authui.dll". I've tried to reboot my laptop, but then it automatically opened Startup Repair. After a few minutes of waiting, it said something like "couldn't fix the problem" or something. I've also tried F8, but it just went straight to Startup Repair numerous times.

I'm using 32-bit Windows 7 Starter, by the way.

Hi, did you press the F8 key repeatedly ? Sometimes, you just need to keep pressing the key until the Safe Mode option pops up.

Hmm,does pressing F8 usually works for the laptop and pops up the safe mode optiion window? I mean, safe mode key can be different on different machines...

F8 works on my 6y.o. laptop
How old is the machine ?

You might power down and remove the battery
Then hold down the power button for 45 seconds to 1 minute to drain the power out of the board
Then reinsert the battery and try again.
