Users/Sean need Sean given full control
Windows need TrustedInstaller full control
Sean has full permission but on TrustedInstaller I am getting this error:
Q:\>cacls users\sean
Q:\users\Sean EveryoneOI)(CI)F
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEMOI)(CI)F
BUILTIN\AdministratorsOI)(CI)F
MAINLAND\SeanOI)(CI)F
Q:\>cacls users\sean /E /T /C /G TrustedInstaller:F
No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
Windows folder for TrustedInstaller, not users folder.
Also try NT Service\TrustedInstaller instead or "NT Service\TrustedInstaller" with "".
Sorry, not quite confident with the commands, tried this:
Q:\>cacls windows /E /T /C /G TrustedInstaller:F
No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
Q:\>cacls Windows /E /T /C /G NT AUTHORITY:F
Invalid arguments.
NOTE: Cacls is now deprecated, please use Icacls.
Not sure why, can you give me full path/command line, just to avoid confusion from my side.
I couldnt see TrustedInstaller in windows built in groups anywhere,.
This is not the exact default permissions (I have been guessing for a while now :), in case you wish not to pursue it)
Try (make sure you use the correct drive letter though):
Code:icacls C:\Windows /grant "NT Service\TrustedInstaller":(OI)(CI)F
Well you are guessing better than me :).
Tried your command line, it did it but still the same thing, no boot.
I dont normally give up but I am out of ideas, besides adding a new user in command prompt to win 7 and try booting (which I dont know exactly how to do) then I guess I have to give up?
Try https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/968003 perhaps (to reset registry permissions):
See the blog linked to at the end for how to run it without installing the msi file - (Issue 2) Notes about a couple of possible issues while using the SubInAcl tool - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs
Thank you very much for all your efforts in helping me GokAy. I'll see what I can do, its been 3 weeks since it stopped booting to 7, I guess I am getting used to the idea of not going to get it back perhaps. I might start a post on microsoft now that we have somehow narrowed it down.
Well, you can backup whatever and clean install :)
