Has Microsoft permanently damaged Windows 7?

I am now forced to read the description of every security update because Microsoft is sneaking telemetry crap into every Tuesday update, since August of this year. I might as well turn off all Windows updates together, as I am sick of it. Microsoft is like the heads of Hydra, cut one off, three more pop up in their place.

Paranoia results in a situation of ever-decreasing circles - and we all know where that leads

MS has neither time nor funds to do deep analysis of data returned, in 99.999% of cases.
Granted, organisations such as the NSA may do.

Solution - accept that anything you do on the internet is tracked.
It WILL be, one way or the other.

There is NO SUCH THING as total secrecy.

There never has been and never will be, once one person has shared information with another.

Ad hominem NOT. A security breach is still a security breach. There are limits to everything and MS crossed the line in pursuit of profit & Google.

I have all of the updates installed on my Win 7 computer. Twice, a GWX folder showed up in my Windows\System32 folder which I renamed. My system is fine, not "damaged" and I don't get nagged to upgrade to Win 10.

Just because we can never have total secrecy doesn't mean we can't try to minimize the damage, as opposed to your suggestion that we just bend over and take it.

I can never get Windows Update to work. It takes hours to merely get the list of updates (all the while not using an bandwidth to actually search, rather just constantly using the CPU for completely no reason, turning it unusable) and failures after getting the list are high. After trying Windows 10 once, I'm not going to go back to it, so is there a complete list of updates to avoid? As in, from the start of Windows 7 to now? I know there are a lot of lists, just looking for something complete so I can remove and disable those updates once and for all.

List of what? KBs to avoid if you don't want Win 10?? KBs to avoid because they might cause problems with Windows Update itself?

I doubt if you'll find an authoritative list of what to avoid if you don't want Win 10. A lot of people try to maintain their own list, but opinions vary on the purpose of certain KBs. Sometimes MS isn't plain-speaking on the topic. And, even if you had a list, it would be pain to manage it over the course of months and years.

So, you might want to use the application below. There is an installable version and a portable version. I use the portable. It runs in about 1 second flat and gives you an onscreen report.

Ultimate Outsider: Using GWX Control Panel to Permanently Remove the 'Get Windows 10' Icon

I've never personally had issues with Windows Update. It's an annoying thing to have to bother with, but it's worked OK for me so far. Famous last words.

Yes, avoiding Windows 10 is what I meant, but if something helps with avoiding problems with Windows Updates itself, it's not a bad idea either. And also removing any updates for the telemetry tracking that started with Windows 10 and now has seeped into Windows 7 & 8. I removed the GWX manually a while ago and since Windows Updates won't work properly, it hasn't got an opportunity to install itself. I just wished svchost for Windows Update didn't keep using up the CPU randomly.
