Cannot change password in Windows 7

I am running Win 7 SP2 with all the latest updates in Parallels 11.0.1 with all the latest updates on a MacBookPr.

I attempted to change my Windows 7/Network password yesterday and received the following error message:

"An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started." <See screenshot below>.

So I went to computer management to start the NetLogon Service and received the following message.

"Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start"

So I checked what service this was dependent on and it is Workstation.

Tried to start Workstation and got the same error

Checked and there are 4 service dependencies

    Browser Support Driver
    Network Store Interface Service
    SMB 1/x MiniRedirector
    SMB 2.0 MiniRedirector

Network Store Interface Service is running

The other three are not in the services panel.

I confirmed that the Browser Support Driver exists. But there is no service to start as it is a driver I believe.

I have rebooted multiple times, ran virus scans. I googled this problem for hours. Also, I do not have a Windows Restore point.

Totally flummoxed a to what the issue is. My guess is somehow one these files got corrupted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you attempt to manually start the net logon service?

SMB services are a little tricky, this might be of some help

Good luck and keep us posted.

Excuse me but what is a "Windows 7/Network password"? :) Or do you mean your user's password? Like CTRL+ALT+DEL then "Change Password"?

How did you try to change your password? When are you being asked for this password?

Since you are trying this on Parallels, did you configure Network Interface correct? Can you browse network with your Win7? Maybe your services aren't starting due to lack of a network card. Network Settings bridged should work nicely

Netlogon is for domain controller authentication as far as I know. (manual and stopped for my laptop, workgroup'ed)

GokAy, good points. If BryanSchmiedele was attempting to configure a new network connection or for some reason assigned a domain name that may be a problem.

You can't join a domain without a domain controller so not likely. Hopefully, it is just a misconfiguration. If not, once we get a better idea, we can try some other things.

Can't join a domain and naming a domain in computer properties are two different things.

I don't even want to try that and screw up my stuff.

    Some progress made maybe

I did try to start the NetLogon Service manually. It tells me that Workstation and Server dependencies.

Server is running, but Workstation is not.

Try to start Workstation and it has dependencies - as I outlined in the first post.

I went and was able (I think) to start the

    SMB 1/x MiniRedirector
    SMB 2.0 MiniRedirector

Using the directions on MS's page.

However, after reboot I cannot see those services in the services window.

In the event viewer I see something very strange:

The Workstation service depends on the SMB 1.x MiniRedirector service which failed to start because of the following error:
Workstation is not a valid Win32 application.

And I am trying to change my PC Password.

    I am on the domain.

Unless you are a member of a network domain you are not a workstation. You are a stand alone PC right?

Are you trying to do this via user accounts in the control panel?
See the attached image, that is where you should be
