A way to remember (and later restore) positions of icons on my desktop

I'm curious, if there's a way to remember positions of icons on my desktop and later restore them if needed?

Let me explain why I need this. I have icons on my desktop arranged in a certain way. So this last time I was trying my friend's monitor which changed the resolution on my desktop, but then when I plugged in my own monitor back all my icons were bunched up in the left corner and I had to move them (manually) into their positions, which was somewhat frustrating. So I was curious if there's a way to restore them automatically.

Thank you, fellas (and sorry for my late response -- I didn't get a notification email.)

I installed "Desktop Restore" that was able to save and restore icons on the desktop, but now I see that the software is incomplete. For instance, it would be nice to also restore Windows 7 widgets, and most importantly all open windows/programs to their previous positions? Also is there a way to remember the layout automatically, or without me manually saving it?

I am not aware of any software that will do the other things that you mentioned.
