    Editing Windows Explorer layout templates

I am unable to make Windows 7 File explorer columns to remain in the order I set them to. I've done all the tutorials here and numerous others elsewhere, (they are all the same) and the results are that most folders convert to my settings, and some don't, but after a couple of days, they all revert to the Windows 7 original order.

To be clear: all my folders are General Items and all are set to the detail view. My preferred order is Name, Size, Type, Date. Is there a way to edit the layout templates themselves in the registry? Did I miss something?

After a while, Windows gets to where it can no longer consistently apply templates to the desired folders. See this post: Question about Windows 7 Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

Hmm, I do remember seeing your post about this issue in another thread. :)

What if you set folder views and backup. Then reset and restore whenever it stops working?

Yep, a reset/setup/backup/restore scheme should work. I just find it easier to prevent the OS from ever writing to that area (but doing that has its drawbacks).

Many thanks to all for the advice. I've read all the tutorials, most of which I already followed earlier, but repeated them to be sure. The backup and restore the registry keys seems the most reasonable and the quickest. I also looked at the registry BagMRU branch (it was clean) and will watch for the changes.
