    Diagnostic tracking service

This service got installed on my machine by one of the Windows updates. Now, anything with the word "tracking" does not look attractive to me, so I have it disabled and nothing wrong is happening.

Could anyone tell me if there is anything useful - for me - that this service does and that I'm missing by having it disabled?

It was part of the MS upgrade to W10,(see posts in ten forum regarding privacy).

However MS has now decided to deploy it to W7 & W8 machines.

Its not malware, if your happy to agree to MS's new policies.

According to that post, the Diagnostic tracking service is installed by Windows Update 3022345, yet this update is not installed on my machine.

In any case, it does appear that disabling this service does not have any bad side effects, so my question appears to be resolved.

Bumping this thread because I wondered about this yesterday after finding it running among my Services, and when I do the research I realize that I NEVER INSTALLED KB3022345 ON THE MACHINES THAT ARE RUNNING IT!? So they must have bundled it with another update and after some long surfing it seems to be KB3080149 that re-asserted this.

I've Disabled it in Services, but I may yet uninstall KB3080149 or instead try

    sc delete DiagTrack
