I had an HP small form factor tower and I wouldn't go near another one. The motherboard ate power supplies and then died itself.

I personally think refurbed laptops can be a great way to go. That's why I do them. But you do have to be careful. A lot of sellers are not completely honest about the condition.

Win Pro v. Home shouldn't make any diff with performance issues.

Have Magic Micro build you a computer to your specs. I got an I7, 16 GB ram, 2 1TB WD Black HDDS, W7 Pro for 1200.00. Works perfectly. I use it for music creation. They can build you a much cheaper one if you're on a budget. Why get refurbished when you can get a new one for a bargain price?

Sorry about that. I had included a link to another desktop I found on Newegg, but the link did not make it to my post. It is HP Compaq 8000 Elite SFF PC - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9505 2.83GHz, 4GB DDR3 1333 Memory 500GB 7200RPM HDD - Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit - Newegg.com
Oh yep I was wondering where the link was :)

Well I agree with the others this machine will likely have very poor ventilation and run hot,
Eventually you will need to do this,
Although I did this finally after 6 years of use,
    I'm not a fan of H-P

This would be my choice. I own 2 of them and have sold at least a dozen to my clients.

UPDATE: I came very close to purchasing the Thinkcentre M58P referenced above until I realized that the three previous pc's that I purchased and had problems with were Win 7 PROFESSIONAL. Instead, I bought the Win 7 HOME PREMIUM Lenovo Thinkcentre M58 Ultra Small Form Factor Desktop - Newegg.com. I've only had it for about a week, but so far, so good. It runs like a new Win 7 pc. I now wonder if Win 7 PROFESSIONAL had problems, in general, that are not present in Home Premium.

    Hi,
Home premium is a more simplistic version
Not a lot of bloat and usually just works,
Pro version well if you need group policy that's the one to get a single user would not need pro.

Those m58's are workhorses. But I am not a fan of the small form factors from ANY mfg.
