Regedit and LEGACY items

There are a plethora of files beginning with LEGACY in their title. can someone tell me what they are, their purpose and use, and are they necessary or not? Please!

If you are talking in the Windows Registry it is mostly undocumented. Often benign neglect is the best policy. If you want to attempt cleaning up the registry my inclination would be to first make a Restore Point if you have them enabled. And/or make a Registry Backup with Registry Backup

Then I would use Wise Registry Cleaner Free Portable from this suite

I have not tried the Registry Defrag. That is riskier so let's not go there in this case. But I have used the Registry Cleaner several times with no issues.

If it will clean this stuff out I do not now. But if it does not perhaps it needs to be there.

Much of the Windows registry is officially undocumented. Much of what you might read in various articles, including from Microsoft, are merely implementation details, true at the time of writing but subject to change without notice. Once something is documented it becomes very difficult to change, as might be necessary in a new OS.

Delete registry entries at your peril.
