    Intel i3 or celeron/pentium/amd - low budget laptops


    I have a friend who wants to buy a laptop. I offered him my laptop
    Specs of my Laptop (its in the show specs on the bottom)
    My Laptop, selling for $350 15.6"
    i3-2350M
    500 HDD
    8GB DDR3 1333mhz
    Intel HD 3000

    The laptops my friend wants to buy

    Laptop #1(acer) $299 11"
    Celeron N2840
    320 HDD
    2GB DDR3 1066 Mhz
    Intel Hd graphics

    Laptop #2(Dell) $399 14"
    Pentium N3540
    500 HDD
    4 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
    Intel Hd graphics

    Laptop #3(acer) $429 17.3"
    AMD a4-6210
    500 GB HDD
    4GB DDR3 1066 Mhz
    AMD Radeon R3

    All the three laptop has the same HDD speed (5400,Even mine)

    He told my he will do some web browsing, some gaming, Ms office etc.

    So overall which laptop is the best from the four?

    He's not going to do much gaming on any of them. I'd say a Intel i5 2.8Ghz would be a minimum and a faster hard drive would help a lot.

    If it were me, I would go for the i3. It's a hyperthreaded dual core, and has a higher clock speed than the AMD quad core, so really, they are equivalent (more or less). It also had more and faster memory. The only thing the AMD has going for it is the screen size compared to this one.

    I don't know how much gaming you can do with this lappy, you own it, so you know best, but I don't think it will run anything at really exotic resolutions. But it should be good for reasonable resolutions with some games at an acceptable frame rate. But it will be pushing it.

    That would be my choice, anyway. It's not really a gaming laptop, but few are. I would avoid the Celeron and the Pentium. Those are both low end machines, and not really worth it unless you're just doing work/browsing with them.
