On my W7 machine, I now have a daily routine, delete windows/softwaredistribution/download files, run cleanmgr to remove ~BT & ~Ws folders. I have KB3035583 removed and hidden. What exactly is causing these folders to be continually downloaded. Everytime I shut down, the "shutdown" Icon has a note that says "installs updates and then shuts down you computer", yet no updates are shown in windows update. Tx

I exercised Option 3 To Disable 'Get Windows 10' using a REG file from Get Windows 10 Icon - Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

    Wouldn't that be sufficient?

Trash....Tx for your help again. My update settings match. Here is what I went thru with the kb's. Notice 6978 is still installed but decided to skip it since the original install date was 1/1/2010?. KB2952664 was un-installed,but it appeared as an optional update today, re-hid again same as KB3035583

As you suggested, I did complete option #3. Will wait a day or so and see if anymore attempts to fill those folders.

I no longer have W10 failed installation entries during windows update for the last week. Previously had 2 a day attempts. Tx

That is an old win-8-8.1 compatibility update :/
Probably should remove it as well it is a telemetry sender,
