Mouse pointer jumps around only on start-up

I share my desktop (Windows 7) with my partner. However, my mouse, which is plugged in to my computer and is a Logitech US Laser Mouse, jumps around when I start up my desktop or when my partner and I need to change access. To stop the mouse jumping, I have had to adjust the mouse settings daily.

I have tried different mouse units but without any luck. However, when I go to:

    1. Devices and Printers
    2. USB Laser Mouse
    3. right click, Mouse Settings
    4. Hardware
there seems to be two devices showing. I am wondering if this is causing my computer some confusion on start up. The two settings are:
    • HID-Complaint mouse - mice and other point devices
    • USB Input Device - Human Interface device
Should one or other be deleted, so my computer is not confused or in conflict on start-up? I am not sure which setting applies to my Logitech corded mouse.

    Thank you for any assistance.

You can delete them both from Device Manager and reboot. If they are both supposed to be there they will be reinstalled by Windows. In fact it is a standard support trick to delete a problem device from device manager. After rebooting Windows will reinstall the device. It seems to fix driver issues more than half the time if the driver is the current driver.

I have never seen it break a machine so it is a very low risk thing to try.

Thank you for your advice. I have tried it and will see how it goes over the next few days to see if this problem is fixed.

Well it has happened again after a few days. The mouse pointer starts jumping all over the page again, but only on the page where I or my partner presses our own square icon to get access to our documents, emails, etc. and on no other page.

Anybody with any further suggestions on how to fix this desktop problem on Windows 7?

    Thanks.
