Some documents not being automatically added to jump list...

I've assumed that recently opened files were automatically added to the jump lists on the Start Menu. That's because that's the way Windows 7 has always behaved for me on multiple machines.

I did a clean install of 7 on my laptop and now some files are automatically added to the jump list and some are not. For instance, all Notepad and Word files I open appear on the jump list.

Some Excel files I open do appear on the Excel jump list and some do not. It happens that the Excel files that are not added are opened from my Dropbox folder (but I do not know if the issue happens ONLY from the Dropbox folder).

However, files of other types (Word, Notepad) that I open from the Dropbox folder do get added to their respective applications' jump lists.

So, how do I get any file I open to be automatically added to the jump list?

Follow this tutorial: Jump Lists It may offer some solutions.

Heed the warning box explaining that recent programs and items need to be turned on; If either one or both were off, turn on and test.
Also, check the bottom of the tutorial under Related Tutorials, there may be something there concerning jump lists that may make things clearer.

    Especially,
Jump Lists - Reset and Clear All Items You may have to do a reset, it will clear all present jumps and you will have rebuild the lists, but it just might need a reset.; I know its a pain to rebuild, but it might be just what's needed.

Jump Lists - Change Number of Recent Items to Display You might have more than 999 jumps already, it doesn't say you have to reset just run the update, but I would reset, then apply the update, then rebuild.
