Is Win7 running on LGA1151 + Skylake Motherboards?

My last build my USB 3.0 drivers came on the motherboard supporting DVD.

Why not plug your keyboard and mouse into a USB 2.0.
Their is no need for USB 3.0 for such things.
You can't move your mouse or type fast enough to even use the speed of a USB 2.0.

The thing is all the ports on the back of the motherboard are 3.0 and 3.1.

and it is Asrock for my board i made typo so made corrections to it sorry.

I did see a USB 2.0 header on the board but I don't have any connectors here.

Since the drivers for usb 3.0 has been installed, and the USB/KB is disconnected, will the USB 3.0 work by using a USB 3 hard drive? I am at work now so I I have yet to test it.

I have a number of things I can try later

Update the BIOS
Check if I can use a USB 3.0 portable HDD

The main thing is I need to copy stuff from the USB 2.0 HDD I have. Once this is done I can re install Windows without installing USB3 and work with the USB MS/KB and wait until there is a fix

so I have updated the BIOS to the latest version and it is the same thing. The USB keyboard and mouse will not work
I have plugged in a USB 3 portable hard drive and it was detected by windows a such. but since the kb and mouse d not work I am stuck.

If I install Windows again and do not install the USB drivers then I can make the kb and mouse work but no USB port will ever work

There is no usb 3.0 support in Windows 7 when you try to install.

Go into the bios and enable Legacy usb if it has that option, that should help you.

If not you have to install Windows 8.1 or 10

This is a known issue.

USB ports will not work on Z170 boards to install Windows 7. You need to have PS2 mouse and keyboard or use workarounds.

Asrock, Asus, and Gigabyte have all developed workarounds of one type or another.

above link shows how on Asrock boards. For a DVD install, you have to enter UEFI and go to Advanced config and enable a “PS2 simulator” until the install is finished. For a USB flash drive install, you need to use a different method explained in the above video.

Asrock also offers a downloadable patcher tool to modify the Windows 7 ISO so it can be installed on Asrock Z170 boards. I'm not sure if the patcher will work on non-Asrock boards.

I've heard that a section of the Asrock Z170 board manuals specifies how to handle this issue manually.

Some manufacturers have a BIOS setting for "Windows 7 installation" or "EHCI mode".

I already have Windows 7 installed and I used the DVD option.

Is there another way aside from moving to 8.1 or 10? I just want 7 and make the usb ports work regardless of the speed - I just need to transfer files from a usb 2.0 and make my kb and mouse work.

So are you saying there`s no usb 2.0 support after you installed 7 ?

Thought all the issues were from no usb 3.0 / 2.0 support during the install, not after, please elaborate.

If there is no usb support at all whatsoever for windows 7 after the install, that stinks.

I was planning on installing 10 on the Sabertooth Z170 anyway :)

all the ports on the back of the board are USB 3.0 and 3.1 ports.

I have windows 7 already installed so I have manged to make the Keyboard and mouse work USB since BIOS settings is configured for emulation.

So I installed all drivers and everything was fine, so and I thought. so I tried to plug in my USB 2.0 HDD and it was not detected at all.

So I checked Device Manager and there she was the USB Root hub with the big ? on it. so I pointed the update driver to the DVD disk that came with my Mobo. and after it installed and the dialog box says Click Next to continue, the KB and Mouse seemed like disconnected. So I thought oh I may need to turn off the emulation from the BIOS but it gave me the same thing.

so I updated the BIOS to the latest 1.6 for Asrock Z170 extreme 6. and at the windows main screen I plugged in my other USB 3.0 hdd and windows detected it ( that is after disabling the emulation for USB in BIOS)

I saw a USB pins on the board where you can hook it up to a case,front panel I guess. but I am not sure if those are USB 2.0

I am re installing Windows 7 again. I have noticed that there are two items for USB
Asmedia 3.0
and Intel USB 3.0 drivers.

Installed both

If in case I try to install just one - What do you think?

Your usb ports on the front of the case should be blue usb 3.0 ports, you use the special cable that came with the case and you hook it to that front panel usb 3.0 port on the motherboard, it`s longer then a usb 2.0 port.

Install the Asmedia and the Intel drivers that way you can use both ports, if not only one or the other works.

All the drivers should be on the cd.

The Sabertooth Z170 has usb 2.0 ports on the back, so I hope I don`t run into these issues.
