WHAT?! Windows 10 icon appears after incompatibility

I have had a few threads on here recently about difficulties reinstalling Windows 7 after having installed Windows 10 on a machine with Atom N2600 running GMA3600. There is no Windows 10 driver for GMA3600 and Windows 10 will not function correctly or run games without it (not to mention the stretched screen).

10 days later I have just finished my reinstall of Windows 7 - not an easy road! And just finished backing everything up and making a system image - and now a little icon appears on the taskbar suggesting I upgrade to Windows 10! Unbelievable - there is no option to check whether your system is eligible or not. This machine didn't have the upgrade icon before, I was just rather foolhardy in upgrading it via ISO upgrade in the first place. Now apparently it is upgradeable. But I am fairly sure there is still no driver for GMA3600.

If anyone knows different, please let me know!

Incidentally I have Windows updates set to notify me updates are available but not download or install them and the icon has appeared of its own accord!

I found KB3035583 and removed it. Icon gone now. Unfortunately it is on my system image

    Hi,
Depending on the rest of your update settings 10 would load regardless of any compatibility quirks,
Upgrading is another story all together as you said no drivers which may or may not still be the case,

Did you also Uncheck Give me recommended updates the same as Important updates in the update settings ?
Otherwise all Recommended updates would of been in the same section as Important updates and load unless to culled them out
If you see the upgrade logo you loaded them

Thanks - yes that is unchecked. During re-install I downloaded optional updates but they were marked as 'security updates' - I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I hope it doesn't come back as it's a child's laptop and he's inquisitive! Hopefully as he doesn't have an admin account, it would not download.

Thanks I will check out the other thread (that may be where I found the update KB to remove).

    Hi,
I've never seen an Optional security update :/
I'll save you a little searching

Just remove this one from his list
    Code:
    wusa /uninstall /kb:971033 /quiet /norestart

Thanks! Sorry I probably worded that badly - it was just one of the usual optional updates for Windows 7 - I assumed it was for security - my brain has gone I can't remember what they are called lol.

Thanks for the link. It just proves to me though, that just because the option to upgrade is there doesn't mean your laptop is compatible! We didn't get the option to upgrade back in July August, but just this month all 3 of our laptops received the uprade option, so I assumed it meant a release had been rolled out that was suitable for older laptops!
