    HDD randomly wiped

I just updated Java. After doing so Firefox seemed to randomly uninstall off of my computer. Went and downloaded and reinstalled firefox without any problems until it finished installing and it seemed to wipe out all my shortcuts on my desktop. After looking around a bit it also seemed to have wiped my entire HDD... or at least 95% of it. All my STEAM games are gone, a few other non-steam games are gone, ORIGIN and all my EA games are gone, all my Blizzard games are gone. Ventrillo, WinRAR, and a few random audio files are still there.

What on earth just happened? Any ideas? I feel like it was some sort of virus but... i can't fathom why it would have left a handful of random programs intact.

Download and run MalwareBytes to see if you have any active infections.

I hope you had a backup.

Just finished doing that, also trendmicro. No virus anywhere.

I don't really have anything on here that's worth saving and i'm most likely going to wipe both drives our of paranoia, but it's driving me nuts that i don't know why this happened. It's so... unusual and random.

Can you go back to before this happened with Restore Point?

Restore didn't do anything. All the icons on my desktop were there but they were all 'errored' and the HDD was still wiped.
