Set VLC player as Default for all programs and protocalls- MISTAKE

Hi all i just got vlc going on my new PC and messed up bad. I went to default programs and set it to open
all programs and protocalls it can [ the first green arrow under set default programs ] this ended up killing my Fallout 3 game. went digging around and found that VLC was now set to open the shaders in the game . I looked on you tube so far and only got 2 videos that seem to have answers and they talk about resetting them manually in the regestry with regedit in the run box. Im no computer wiz and was wondering if anyone knew if there was a good website that explains this in detail or perhaps a different video. Or any thing other than paying bitdefender 80 bucks to fix it themselves. the shader files are marked .spd

HELP!!!!!!!!!!! fallout 4 is coming soon
P.S. i would have put this under games but its really a windows thing and maybe even a regestry thing.

See if this will do what you need to do. Default File Type Associations - Restore

Or you may try this System Restore

    Or just uninstall vlc.

I use vlc all the time, it`s awesome, but only for movies.

or go here to see if it will change anything, but try Steve`s advice 1st.
