YOu can try to type power options in search, and then drag to task bar; that may work.
Weather the above does or not work, this may be more to your liking.
Power Plan - Create Shortcut to Change Power Plan[2]=Power Management
Hello Gilly,
You will not have the Power system icon available to select from unless you have either a laptop/notebook or a desktop connected to a UPS battery backup with it's data cable. If you do, then sometimes a simple restart may sort this. If not, then this may help.
System Icons - Enable or Disable
If you do not have a laptop/notebook or a desktop connected to a UPS battery backup with it's data cable, then you could create one of these shortcuts that would work for you to pin to the taskbar (or where you like).

Hope this helps,

This is an old thread, but still has useful information. I found it while searching for how to enable the Power switching system tray icon, which apparently you can't enable when running on a Desktop without a UPS. I think it's useful to occassionally switch my PC to not sleep/hibernate because I want it available on the network for certain activity.
While the short-cut information above is definitely useful, I eventually found a better solution: the open-source utility Power Scheme Switcher. https://powerschemeswitcher.codeplex.com/ It runs in the system tray, doesn't collect data like some of the other "free" utilities that provide the same functionality, and it provides a quick and easy way to switch between Power settings.
Hopefully if someone else stumbles on this thread they'll find it useful.

Hello wtgreen, and welcome to Seven Forums.
If you like, instead of installing 3 party software, you could use a desktop context menu.
Power Plan - Choose from Desktop Context Menu in Windows
Thanks for that tip Brink. I think I like the system tray utility better because it lets me *see* what the current power scheme is too, but the desktop short-cut is an interesting approach.
I downloaded it just to see how the icons and sub-menu are added since I have some other desktop short-cuts I've created that could use a little polish. Thanks for the tip!
Open Control Panal
Right-click Control Panal icon in taskbar
Select pin this program to taskbar
Right-click on Control Panal icon in taskbar
Select Power Options
This was added so late because the search in google came up with this forum entry in first position.
