Can't get past Windows 7 Home Premium window

Every time I try to start my computer, it will get to the log on page and try to load the user name but then it will keep flashing from black to log on screen and will never load it. It will not even load in Safe mode so I can't do anything.
I did not upgrade or download anything before this happened.

I have no idea what makes a PC work behind the scene so I don't know what to do.
    Please Help.

What I would like to know is have you had this machine from new, if so did it come with any back up media, and just how old is it?

Have a look at this thread. It's the same problem you are having, and it mentions a solution:

Login screen flickers after W7 updates - tablet

You will need a bootable Windows disk, or restore disk.

The problem is caused by a bad Microsoft update, and you have to use a restore point to restore to a time before the update, and then remove the update before you can log in. Microsoft has since fixed the update, and it seems to be safe to install now, but you should do it with some caution. You may want to avoid the update for now, I don't know how you might feel about that, or what other forum members will say about it.

Anyway, follow the thread and the recommendation in it, and post your results. If you have trouble with the system restore, please post back for help.
