Unexpected shutdown, no event log listing

I plug in a flashdrive, scan it, copy a few files, pull it out (it had 3 files on it, never have viruses. Never.). Windows suddenly decides to shutdown. Waited :30 sec, rebooted, logged in and went to Event Viewer>System and filter for 6008 events. Zero, no listings. Can't find anything in the past 20 minutes that looks like a shutdown.

What gives? How can Event Viewer not show the shutdown? How can I find out what the burp was? I've had no issues lately (since a new card in July), Windows has been flawless. I hate it when Windows does something like this and I can't track it down.

Thanks in advance for any interest,

Did you Safely Eject the flashdrive before pulling it out ?

In the taskbar notification area is there a "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon displayed, listing your flashdrive ?
I right-click on the icon to Eject.

I'm on W10 now so the icon is different than W7, but if you hover over the "Safely Remove..." icon it should display text very similar to my screen print example below.

Did you get a message on Restarting the PC did not shut down correctly, offering choices on how to restart ?
You might also need to change settings for how a BSOD/Crash/Unexpected Shutdown is handled.

My W10 Notification Area icons example:
