    RegSvr32 error

Hey guys, I really didn't know what would be the best section to post this in, but here is my problem.

A few days ago I started to get this error message. I am only getting this pop on when I either startup or restart. If I click the "ok" it goes away.

I do run Mcaffee virus protection and have also done the following

    1) Ran a temp file cleaner program TFC
    2) Also ran a program called malwarebyte

I tried googling the name XefKist and PivlUkfu but came up with nothing.

Just as a side note, I was having a problem with Firefox not allowing me to download anything. The malware program scan corrected the downloading problem, but I really can't say for sure if these 2 are related in anyway.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

this looks like a typical startup remnant of some malware. Run hijack this or CC cleaner, it will probably help in clearing out the old entry point.

    unknown dll

    Hi
    Me again,
    Please go
    Controlpanel>Folder options> View > click on Show hidden files/folders >>APPLY >> OK.

    Then go
Computer >> C: >> programData >> RIGHT click the unknown file if its there >> delete (its one of the options).

If the unknown file is not there please post a screenshot of what is.

    Roy

after the delete, please reverse the show hidden option.

@event3horizon I'll definitely run CC cleaner, but is that not similar to the other program I ran Malwarebyte?

@torchwood I did find a folder in the programdata area. But before deleting it, I wanted to show a couple screenshots.... a quick snap of the folder in the programdata and the contents within that folder. I have no clue as to what it is but I thought it might be wise to at least show it.

While I did find the XefKist name, I didn't see anything with that Pivlukfu name(dll) in the folder or anywhere else.

Do you think I should right click the folder and delete... or go inside the folder and select the files individually?

    deletion

Id work backwards ie files first then the main folder.

The info shows that they first appeared on your comp 30 sept can you remember what you installed about then.

Also make sure that Adobe and Oracle(Java) are upto date

dont recognise a couple of the others will have a quick look at them.

I just did a partial snapshot of the progapp folder. I sorted by date and the XefKist folder appeared at the top with a 12/24 modify date. I do see what you are refering to with the dates of the files within the folder. The only thing I was updating or changing (around the 24th) is uninstalling and reinstalliing firefox, and I think I may have updated chrome when I was trying to correct the firefox downloading program.

I have a feeling it may be some leftover malware possibly but cant say for sure. But those are some strange ass file names don't you think? I'll just go ahead and do what you suggested, doing each file...and then the folder.

When I used that malwarebytes program, it definitely found a bunch of crap. Is CCcleaner a similar type program, or do they go after different things?

EDIT .... well I tried deleting each of those files individually, than the folder (they are all sitting in my trash can) .... restarted the computer and the RegServe error came back on.

I think maybe a file PivlUkfu.dll should be inside that folder and it isn't. Not sure where I should go from here?

Redmond and process-booster were the 2 i was unsure about, CC will probobly remove processbooster.

redmond appears to be from a "photoshop" type program.

They both do different things, no harm in running them once a month.

And to finish off id do an on line scan using ESET, you will have to dissable Macafee while its running 1hr+

That sounds like its a rootkit, Eset may find it.

please post the results of the scan, will speak to you later.

CCleaner will remove them when you run it.
Have those files returned in that folder.

Can you follow this link and goto page 5 download and run roguekiller
