disable auto arrange in Win 7

viewed the tutorial about disabling auto arrange in Win 7, proceeded to download, run, etc. and all i ended up with was a Giant Windows 7 icon in the middle of my screen. thought i'd lost everything, but created a backup just before i tried this step and restored system. this tutorial (written by a Microsoft tech i hear) does not work. please help! is there any other way to disable this annoying feature in Win 7. i want to arrange photos in my pic file as i choose to like i did on XP. thanks

Hello Misago, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

Did you use the tutorial below for this. It does work in Windows 7.

yes, that's the tutorial and download i used. after i clicked run within seconds i had nothing whatsoever on my screen but the Win7 logo. really worried me thinking i had lost all files. restored from a backup, but to me this is simply to extreme a measure to take with my system. what is the problem? if you say it works, what went wrong?

It sounds like something just interfered with it restarting explorer again afterwards.

Run the .bat file again. If this happens again, then:

    1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc)
    2. Click on File (menu bar)
    3. Click on New Task
    4. Type explorer
    5. Press Enter
