forgotten password win 7 64 bits

I have an open session. I tried to change my password but the old one is not recognized, as I probably forgot some sign like $ or &. I do not dare to restart the computer, as I will not be able to open a new session. Can someone tell me whether i can remove or repalce the password before shutting down?

Thank you, I seem to have painted myself into a corner !

Hello yanndu, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

You should be able to use option 4 or 5 below to reset your password.

    Open a Elevated Command Prompt.
    Enter net user administrator /active:yes
Click Start then the arrow to the right of Shutdown and select Switch Users
Login as Administrator, should be no password unless you added one
Go into Control Panel, User accounts and remove or reset the password for your normal account

You may have to switch back to your normal account and logoff before you can make any changes to the account from Administrator.
