Cannot Remove an Icon From Desktop

The icon is for a weather report for my area. Cannot remove, delete or rename it. W7 says it doesn't exist! Help.

Hello Milanodan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sometimes refreshing (F5) the desktop or restarting the computer will remove a ghost icon.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

If the above does not help, try dragging it to my documents and then delete. That does not work try dragging to my documents and dragging, dragging to to desktop, then dragging to recycle bin. It happened to me once, delete did not work dragging did.

Tried all of these, but nothing works. All I get is a thing telling me the icon doesn't exist. Frustrating-----.

Its actually a small, but annoying problem. Rather than trying to solve the problem, when you could be enjoying. Can you start a new folder in your documents, call it junk or whatever and drag the icon there. It will be out of sight and you can start enjoying a great OS, again.

Edit Just had a thought, go to search in start menu. Put the name of the icon, you might be able to find the source and delete that.

Did this come with an application that you downloaded? If it did, uninstall the program, then delete the folder and Icon. You may have to go into 'safe' mode to delete both.

Tried to reboot in safe mode by using the F8 key. Didn't work (unless I'm in safe mode right now and can't tell--W2000 made it easy to tell if you were in safe mode).

Anyway, after the reboot the icon is GONE!!! I thought I had tried rebooting it before but maybe I hadn't.

Thanks to all. I'll go click on some "middle icons" now.
