ASUS cd's have a ton of crapware on them

I'd start with the chip set drivers and lan drivers and sound drivers probably realtek.
That should be enough to get you going
Until you go to the asus site and get the updated ones of the same.

Then check device manager for any signs of Unknown devices.

All right, chipset-, LAN- and audio drivers it is!

Once you get the 3 drivers off the cd do nothing more until you install the windows updates you want
If you don't want all of the windows 10 stuff be sure to exclude these updates from being installed
    Attachment 380211

First change your update settings to these,
    Attachment 380212

After all windows updates get your security installed
Looks like you use MSE :/
    I would suggest Panda free

Okay, fresh Windows 7 plus the three drivers you mentioned are installed. The following devices need troubleshooting:
    "Simple communicationsdevice for PCI"
    "Unknown device"

I have changed the Windows Update settings, although "Give me updates for Microsoft products [...] when I update Windows" and "Show me detailed [...]" are not listed. Everything else is set to the same as the image you linked.

I'll make sure to exclude the Windows 10 stuff.

I'll have a look at Panda Free when I've gotten that far.

Okay if you open the cd again and look though the listing for PCI/ PCI-E listings you can get that one
That is for your graphic's card slots.
You have a display obviously so it can wait until after the updates download and install :)

While waiting for the updates I've been having a look at my hard drives. My 3TB HDD has been devided into three; 1x 100MB partition (for system files or something, that's fine and can stay there), 1x 746GB (which I can't do anything, "new volume" etc. is greyed out), and one 2TB (what's left after the 746GB and 100MB partitions) that I've formatted and is ready to be used. How do I merge the 2TB and 746GB partitions when I'm unable to access the latter?

There are no PCI-E drivers listed. I guess it'll fix itself once I install the GeForce drivers? Also; do I need the "Intel AHCI/RAID Driver"? It's listed on its own tab on the CD software.

How long is Windows Update supposed to take? It's always been extremely inconsistent for me, taking anywhere between 15 minutes to 2-3 hours.

Sweet, I'll download and have a look!

EDIT: The software won't launch. Again, my OS isn't in English, but here's a broken translation:
"Cannot start because the side position configuration is wrong, check log"
I'm unable to find the log, it's not in the installation-folder, nor in my documents.

3 of 237 updates installed. I'll give Mini Tool another shot when the updates are done. I'll be back with a sitrep later tonight.

Yikes not sure what to do about the language and install deal :/
    You don't show a region you're in
I have no clue if mini tool needs a english install or not ?

Yes you should wait until you have your security up and running before surfing the internet and downloading stuff :)
    Panda preferably

I've been using panda for about 4 months I like it a lot
It's light years better than MSE :)
