Yep I still have not taken the plunge into Zorin yet
Still kind of wondering what's up with Zorin 10 the support seems to be 1 month at a time
Cripes now it says Zorin 11 but support till July 2016 :/

I'm running Zorin 9. Extremely stable. Zorin 12, the next long-term edition, should be out in July.
I've run Win 7 32-bit on Atom processors and even a P3 and it ran OK. It really matters what you are trying to do with it. For general tasks, it runs fine.
For those that are asking why not stick with XP, the OP said he doesn't feel safe running XP anymore so wants to move to a different OS.
As far as installing Linux, it's a matter of preference. I've run just about every distro of Linux and prefer Win 7 over any of them. As others have said, Linux does require fewer resources so performance will be better.
I installed Linux Mate and the computer is running quite smooth. As for the graphics and audio, they worked right off the back. I'm still getting used to the way Linux works, but so far I am enjoying it.
