Windows 7: Windows 7 x64 vs 'windows.old' position on the disk

Windows 7 x64 vs 'windows.old' position on the disk

I have pondered often how to get longer life from my HDs.

The constant read from the inner tracks used by the operating system will go first, will they not.

Lately I saw the windows.old file and in a Sevenforums post it mentioned to delete windows.old to free up space on a small SSD.

Can the Windows folder and windows.old folder be renamed or re-positioned on the disk for longer disk life? I also thought of adding a padding file-- some piece of media or something to the folder but I think that failed some time ago. Might have been a file size check by the OS or chkdsk.

My recent interest in SSD prompted the new inquiry. Can the windows.old file be retrieved in case of a boot failure?

Reset windows position
So a friend of mine runs a 3 monitor setup (lucky SOB), but one of his monitors died on him last night (can't remember if it's the 2nd or 3rd one). Anyways, he had a window that he last opened on the now deceased monitor lol. How can he reset the windows position to Windows 7 default? Thanks.

Drives me nuts that Folder windows do not (have option) to remember their size and position. Or am I just stupid? And which forum would this be under?

Set default Windows size/position
