    Percentage of computer issues?

I'm taking an online course (A+ Certification). Hope to get a job in IT. Can't work on cars anymore.

I was wondering what's the percentage of hardware issues compared to software issues.

    80% software and 20% hardware?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think there is a set number. There's been months in my time as an IT professional, that it's 80% hardware, 20% software, and vice versa. I really think it just depends on where you are, what kind of equipment you work on/have in your environment, among other things. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't base anything on numbers like that, because it can vary big time depending on a lot of variables.

I agree with shadow2201 in that I wouldn't think theres a set percentage due to the variables involved. From MY personal experience, admittedly non professional, I would go a little higher even than 80% software. Yes diagnosing hardware problems/breakdowns is an important part of the IT experience but the vast majority of problems I've dealt with involved software in one form or another. Either from conflicts or the user's inexperience in installing/using/configuring or expectations of said software.
