Windows 7: A windows 7 Task that I created runs when I don't want it to.

A windows 7 Task that I created runs when I don't want it to.

I created a task in windows 7 to shutdown my PC a 1:00am every night. My kids leave the PC running all the time and never turn it off. I have a task set-up with a daily trigger at 1:00 am to run shutdown.exe. I have it set to run even if everyone is logged off. The task works flawlessly except when the PC has been turned off before 1 AM. Every once in a while my kids will shutdown the PC. If this is the case, the next time the PC is turned on might be at 3:30 pm when they get home from school. My kids state that when they get home from school and log into the PC, the PC shuts itself off. When I look a the task scheduler history the event data shows that the task to shutdown the PC successfully ran. My question is this: What is the best way to set-up the task so that the task will not run except for 1:00 am. It would be nice if task scheduler had a well defined black-out period so that a given task can't run except for a very narrow period of time. Thanks!

On the Task / Settings tab is Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed checked ?
If it is, uncheck it and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggest, but it did not work... There is something lacking in windows or I am missing something. It would be nice if there was a blackout time period where a task is blocked from running in a specified time period. If the PC is turned off manually it misses the 1am task to run shutdown.exe. The next afternoon when my boys turn the PC on, it runs the missed task then. It would be so nice if task scheduler had a setting where you could set: DISABLE TASK FROM RUNNING START TIME: 1:30AM - STOP TIME: 11:59 PM

Thanks for the reply. One of my issues is that when my kids leave the computer they switch user and leave programs, videos, and website content running. In power options I have the PC set to sleep, but, many times the PC is still on in the morning because it never is idle. So I made the scheduled task to perform a forced shutdown at 1 am every night. The issue is when the PC is off at 1am and misses the schedule, it performs the shutdown after the next time the PC is booted back up. Again, I wish windows had a defined window of time where a task is blocked from running.

You could do a search for windows task scheduler alternative to see if you can find a program that works better for you.
I've never used any of the programs available, so i don't know if any have the options you want.

CPU fan runs loud until I open task manager
My CPU fan is noisy so I open the Task Manager to see what process uses a lot of ressources and then the fan quiets down instantly. But, when i stop the TM it starts to be noisy again. Like it needs the TM to figure out that it doesn't need to go full speed. I found this thread: Laptop fans run...

WDC Green: 750 GB runs Hot, 4 TB runs Cool ???
I have two external hard drives, both in Vantec NexStar3 USB enclosures. The older 750 GB WDC Green drive runs HOT to the touch, the 4 TB, and the 2 TB before that, run pretty warm but never hot. Why might this be, and would that much heat cause earlier than necessary drive failure?

I cannot find Restore Points created "daily" with Task Scheduler.
Task Scheduler is setup to create restore points every day at midnight and at startup. It indicates that it runs successfully but those points do not show up in System Restore.
