Linking tables and deleting records

in msaccess 7 how can I link 2 tables in a query then delete a record from one of the tables without deleting it from the other? I need to barcode a part number into the first table, run a query that includes a description from another table and then be able to delete a record based on the description from the first table without deleting it from the linked description table (which access won't let me do).
