Hi Mike :),

There is an " Intel Celeron" sticker on the front, so I don't need to back up my drivers, just download them from Intel after install ?

Seeing as you only have wifi internet access you would need that driver in advance
I've never installed with only wifi so I don't know if that driver would install during the install ?

The tag with the snid might be inside the battery compartment
If not just click Start and type in the search box
system information
The summery will list the model there heck take a screen shot of the page.

Is "C" the 240 GB drive shown as "disk 0" in post 13 in this thread? If so, that's OK. Did you note how large it is for later reference? Probably near 60 GB? What partition did you store it on?

I have burned a rescue Disk.

Does this disk in fact boot your PC and how did you confirm that?

Did you burn a Linux-based disk or a Win PE-based disk?

When I am asked to give the product key do I put the "-" figures in between the Numbers and Letters.

It's been a while since I've done it. The Product Key has 5 groups of 5 characters separated by hyphens. If the entry box for the Key is just one large box, then yes, you would use the hyphens. But you may be shown 5 separate small entry boxes, in which case you would just enter one group of 5 in each box. I just can't recall exactly how it's presented to you during the process.

When I start this clean install is my Toshiba external hard drive in the USB port ? I ask this because all my stuff is now on there.

NO. You don't want ANYTHING external plugged. All you need is monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Have you decided if you are going to re-partition that 2 TB Toshiba external drive? You can do that well after the clean install if desired.

Thanks Iggy :) for a lot of different and easy to understand advice.

I am starting to get the picture and feel more confident. You will have understood by now that I am not computer literate at all.

That's why Seven Forums is so fantastic, because their members will still take there time with people like me
I really appreciate their patience and have posted on numerous web sites how good and user friendly this forum is.
Keep up the good work !!!!

I will give more info about my rescue disk next, because I have to examen your questions.

Thanks for your time and help,

If you created the recovery disk in Macrium reflect after it prompted you too it would be a WinPE.
Yea I forget the language problem

Today I have finally the courage ( and I think the knowledge as well as the rescue disk, the Image of Macrium Reflect, the install disk and the product key) together to do this clean install of Windows 7 sp 1 Professional in English.

The Macruim reflect image was done on the 10 the of April, so to get all the latest ( photo's, emails etc) on I should do an other image today I suppose.

Still don't understand it entirely. Mike was on about DRIVERS ( intel Celeron sticker on the front of the laptop.)
For the new install and during the installing progress, ( by Wifi I have no other choice, but it is showing all but the last strength stripes white.) these should all be provided by the clean install disk, or will they ask me to provide drivers during the process ?

Most generic drivers the installer will do those
Issue is your wifi driver
You will need to download it to a flash drive... and install it manually before you can access the internet
Have a wired mouse ready too the touchpad might be way to off to deal with until that driver is installed.

Clean installs I'd review this again too :)
I believe you can skip installing this update first KB3083710
Reinstalled twice, but Windows still won't update

Hi Mike, and thanks for your quick answer. I was a bit too optimistic thinking I do this today, need to revise a lot of info been a while.

I am going through the whole thread again, writing all the good suggestions of all members down and been reading the titurials over 3 times.

So this wifi is really an issue ( it's a strong one 4 of the 5 stripes are white.) and it does not stop or interrupt.

And, of course, there is the update problem now. I have not updated since January and see no difference in performance.

will have a look at this info you give me, thanks again,

As long as you have your wifi driver you can manually install in case the installer does not you should be fine
Normally the installer will only install a basic lan driver for wired internet access.

I can't say I've ever been bold enough to count on wifi :)
