Windows 7: 0-Byte Size Registry Hive

25 Mar 2016   #1

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
0-Byte Size Registry Hive

I installed Sysinternals Autoruns , and in a moment of madness deleted something , and I don't even know what it was that I deleted .

The result is an Infinite Loop preventing Windows from loading , and a message saying " Encountered an unknown error , windows installation cannot proceed "

I ran Tutorial 139576 which showed me that I have an 0-byte sized registry hive .

Where do I go from here ?? I am a novice who would only be following any instructions I am given parrot fashion .

I have a repair disc and a set of recovery discs but only wish to re-install as an absolute last resort , although I did make two attempts to re-install ( with all info intact ). They both seemed to be working , but when I tried to re-boot Windows nothing had changed ,( I was still in that endless loop , getting the same message) but now I also have the two backup files created by the two re-install attempts .
