Win 7 ultra slow file copy and paste

Just over the last days all of a sudden my PC has started having issues copying files from my HDD to a USB drive, or from an external HDD to PC HDD etc. Also when it opens a HDD that has video files on it it takes along time to open, with the green bar over the top slowly moving across the top. If I start to open files it will then say "not responding" and needs to be left alone to come right again. Infact I tried to burn a data DVD of some video files from an external HDD to the burner and that also slowed so badly it only burnt 10% of the data in 30 mins. If I then try to close the files or burner etc it freezes and sometime I have to turn the power off to get it to reboot.
    I have a 64 bit Win 7 OS, an i7 2600 CPU, 16 Gig RAM.
It hasn't been a problem before but now is.
Have ran virus scan and seems ok.
Other small files are ok, surfing the net is ok, other programs are ok. Just file transfers, burning etc.
Any tips would be great, its doing my head in.
    Thx

Hello and welcome bear mate try running these in safe mode for starters
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

I would also update the chipset and USB drivers too GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-P67A-UD3R-B3 (rev. 1.1)
