Domain Computer - Temporary Profile - No Registry SID

    Good morning all,

Yesterday I ran into a strange issue with one of my domain users on a shared workstation. I'm not sure if this is happening to a few other users since many people use this workstation. A user would attempt to login to the machine, however would receive notifications that he's being logged in with a temporary profile. I think, no big deal... I'll go through and clear out his profile on the machine right? Wrong.

This time around, there is 1) No old user folder for his username. 2) There is no SID for the user in the registry. 3) When running whoami /user and getting the SID for the user that way, there is clearly no profile for this user's SID.

Now I don't know what to do in order to resolve the temporary profile issue for this person. I believe none of this information exists because a profile has never been made for him since the computer has been implemented. Searching around Google has numerous suggestions about clearing out the profile from the registry, but I can't find anything that says what to do when said profile doesn't exist.

    Any ideas?

    Hello,

Deleting corrupted profile on registry to fix windows temporary profile:

    • Since the registry of Windows 7 is to be modified, log on to the computer using the administrator account.

    • Start registry editor by typing regedit in find box of Windows 7.

    • Navigate the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

From the expanded list you will see similar keys under profile list, but one with .bak, as shown below.
    • Right-click the user profile ID that is without the .bak extension.

    • Click Rename and rename it to .new or something else.

    • Currently your Windows 7 computer logged in with fresh (temporary) profile with same key. So, rename the new profile key ( which is not having.bak) and remove .bak from correct profile key.

    • Close Registry Editor window and restart the computer to allow the changes to take effect.

If this method doesnt work for you please visit the source page for other solutions here.

    Best regards.
