Hi
I believe you said it earlier = repair install
I have already done that no luck. I just read I may have done the repair wrong. I just chose repair your computer. I think there is a way to reinstall windows 7 without reformatting. I have never done it never needed to. Last time I done a repair was with Windows 98. I am going to try. Already have a backup in case things go wrong.
I done that it got to the end last reboot. Then a black screen would not go to desktop I only saw my curser. Could be issue with my ATI video card or the HDMI to my TV (Yes I have googled the issue. I turned off the computer then back on and it came up saying the upgrade (repair install) or (over the top install) was unsuccessful.
OK Looks like the repair install worked the second time. I uninstalled my HDMI that goes to my TV and it worked this time. Now I can play Internet Checkers. ThrashZone thanks so much for the help.
Glad you got it working :)
I'd look into the extra net 4.6.1 stuff that is really weird to me ?
I uninstalled them. But guess what? Got to download and install all updates again.
I want to thank you again for your help. I tried to reinstall updates again and they fail for some reason. I tried to avoid it but I am going to reinstall Windows again. The system was also very slow after the repair install. I have never had any luck with over the top installs. When I did it on 98 it was mainly to get important info off then I would have to install fresh. But anyway thanks for the help I tried to avoid a reinstall. I really am ready for a new computer I have always wanted to build a desktop. I also want to stay with 7 as long as I can not sure what I will do. Oh and I will make sure first thing I do is check and turn on the features I want. Thanks

Yes I have had trouble with Windows Update also. I heard it was just Windows 7 that Microsoft moved the updates for Windows 7 to the slower server. The wsus seems to be fast. I am running it now and I have set windows Features and everything worked this time. Also the only thing with wsus is it has to be updated every few months. I am doing a new one on my laptop right now just to have handy in case it is needed. My friends laptop needs to be reinstalled so I may be using the wsus soon.
