Yeh, so that basically means no updates and it wont show as a genuine copy then to microsoft.com?
Assuming it even lets you log in and use the system, yes. If you have multiple PCs, get a family pack, OEM licenses, or TechNet (if you qualify).
You need a family pack...and that includes Windows 7 Home Premium...Not Ultimate
You may consider the purchase of Technet which gives you all of the OS's and Office for your own testing and use. It's $349 a year
Otherwise, you gotta buy 2 license keys.
With a Technet plus subscription, you can download almost every software MS makes. For the OS's you get 10 separate keys for each version, so 10 keys for 7 Ultimate, 10 keys for 7 Pro etc., etc. Plus 10 keys for each version of Office. And I assume it's the same for most of the other software they make. I think you can even request additional keys if that's not enough. And these keys are full retail keys that never expire, even after the 1 year Technet subscription expires.
However, the Technet license is supposed to be for evaluation and testing, although MS seems to be very liberal and generous in interpreting that. However, use of Technet keys in a "production environment" is expressly not allowed, although how they would enforce that, I don't know. But home personal type use seems to be OK.
So if I had 2 or 3 computers and wanted to put W7 Ultimate on them, it would be cheaper for me to join Technet than to purchase three retail versions at $320 each. Of course the three computers are for "testing" purposes.
