Cursor Auto open feature

Is it possible to turn off the feature that opens a link when the cursor passes over a button? I have hated this feature ever since window came out with it but have never been able to turn it off.

Not anything I can screen shot. It is when you let the cursor sit on a link or button for any length of time, that link will open, sometimes if you just pass over a button/link, i.e. an advertisement, it will open. This is very irritating, it started with XP I think.

I've never seen a link or button as you describe it, behave as though it was clicked simply because you hover over it too long. That sounds like a hardware problem of some kind.

Happens with every windows XP, vista, and now 7 computer I have ever used. It is a windows designed feature, supposedly so that you wouldn't have to click on a site to open it, just set the cursor on it. Unfortunately if you are not paying attention where your cursor is at what ever it is sitting on will open. Maybe I try changing the click rate to see if I can at least delay the time before it opens something.

Well that didn't work, so if there is anyone out there that knows what I am talking about and know a solution (besides going to MAC) let me know. You can also let me know it it's not fixable.

you may need to update the driver for your mouse or touchpad, or you may need to update the setting within explorer > folder settings > general > double click to open (instead of single click or hover), or you may have a setting within your HP mouse or touchpad program that can turn this off.

The reason others may not have this problem is that HP turns the feature on by default for your dv6700 - most of us do not deal with it and win7 does not turn it on by default.

I did everything you said, all was up to date and on double click and apparently there is no way to turn it off. However you did get me to thinking and I went in and slowed the double click to as slow as it would go. So far that has seemed to solve the problem. Thanks for the help.

You can use the Prt Sc or Print Screen key to try and capture a shot. Good that control panel seemed to work.

If you mean the option that activates a window by hovering the mouse over it then:

Go to control panel, ease of access, ease of access center, make the mouse easier to use. The option to turn that off is here.
