    TaskBar Icon Issue

Hey guys, got a minor issue.
When I play a game thru Steam, and then close it, the Steam icon which holds all the windows, eg chat, friends list all turn to the L4D icon, which makes it confusing.

Right Click Taskbar and click Properties.

Change the option shown in attached pic to anything other than "Always Combine, hide Labels"

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for your time!

Yeh that was already select by default. The only way to solve this is to run the games thru Steam, not thru desktop shortcuts.
EDIT: I don't think you understood the issue. :P What I mean is, see the Red 4 icon? That's supposed to be the Steam icon, the black and white thing.

It is happening that way since windows is combining buttons. Select either "never combine" or "combie when taskbar is full". If the buttons are seperate, they will not get merged and hence will retain their proper icons. Have you tried it with eiher of those settings?

Yes I have and that fixes the issue. However, I prefer them merged :S
ANyhow I think I'll just run the games through Steam to solve the issue.

    Thanks anyway!

Hey guys, I have worked out how to fix this error (and with this you dont need to do any of that un-merging stuff) :)

First of all, the icon that shows up on your task bar is basically a shortcut (If you right click on it, you can see for example if it shows the css icon (Will work with all other icons too), it will have Counter Strike Source above the "Pin this program to the taskbar"). It uses the icon from the shortcut that is in that menu so all you have to do is delete it from the desktop and then it should go back to your normal Steam icon. To get the icon back onto your desktop, go onto your steam games tab and then right click on the game of the icon that you deleted and then click "Create Desktop Shortcut"

    The problem should be fixed

    I hope this helps you

And what if it's NOT on your desktop in the first place? Today Steam started using an icon for a game that I have not played in months, Luxor 2. I don't have any shortcuts to it on my desktop or in the start menu.

(I have Aero effects turned off because Fallout 3 crashes otherwise )
