computers will enter hibernate by themselves

Hi GW (that sounds presidential)

I am running the same OS on several PC's, both desktops and laptops,
and once I've permanently disabled Hibernate, it never comes back.
And after I've disabled the screen saver for whatever theme I happen
to be on at the time, and I've gone into Power Management in the
control panel and set all options for screen blanking, sleep, etc., to NEVER,
I never have to worry about my screen going black or my PC going
into either Sleep or Hibernate.

Note: When you make changes to things like Power Options, be sure you
"Apply" the changes before you leave the option screen.

Could you expand on your OS changing to Win 10? Did it just happen one day? Did you do anything to make it happen? There has been speculation on here about that and it would be of help to everyone if you could state exactly what happened. Thanks,

There is a whole thread here on this happening. How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8 almost a 1000 messages. So all you did was have your Windows Update turned on and one day you turned on your computer and you had Win 10 already installed, is that correct?

i experienced this last week because i have been testing a custom build. Fiddling at Control Panel>Hardware>Hardware Sound>Power Options>Edit Plan Settings is not enough, u were right to go into advanced power settings. but the important thing to note is when u go through the settings. for my case, i already went through the list straight after windows installation. i had set some options under Display Tree, but this was done before i installed NVidia drivers/dell system software (pretty sure it was the NVidia, but not 100%). then i noticed, my screen still dimmed after a certain amount of time. i found that several additional options were now added under Display Tree in advanced system settings.

i took a closer look and under Control Panel>Hardware>Hardware Sound>Power Options>Edit Plan Settings, 'Dim the display' was correctly set to Never/Never,

BUT

under Advanced Power Settings, the entry entered/changed by the later driver installation for
'Dim display after' was automatically set to :-

On battery: 0 Minutes
Plugged in: 0 Minutes

lol but '0 minutes' and 'Never' are not the same if you think about it. i had no option to set it to proper 'Never'.

how i resolved this in the end was to set the value (under advanced power settings) to the max :-

'Dim display after'
On battery: 9,999,999 Minutes
Plugged in: 9,999,999 Minutes

9 million 999,999 minutes ... that's days ... it is improbable that i would not restart my machine/log off before that amount of time expires. my screen never dimmed anymore.

i'm suggesting this because maybe you went through advanced power settings earlier on, before you installed updates/drivers. perhaps some actions had changed the advanced settings' options now.

here's my options for sleep/hibernate/lid close/power button :-

Sleep
-Sleep
--On battery: Never
--Plugged in: Never
-Allow hydrid sleep
--On battery: Off
--Plugged in: Off
-Hibernate after
--On battery: Never
--Plugged in: Never

--On battery: Shut down
--Plugged in: Shut down
-Sleep button action
--On battery: Sleep
--Plugged in: Sleep

no apparent adverse effect for me on these options, everything appears to work.
i do not believe in auto win updates (if one is required i would/l that manually), it is one of the first few things i would disable after installation. i've been practicing that for about 2 decades.

You can't have any Battery Settings on a Desktop Computer. The Battery is only on Laptops. == Here is how I have my Power Settings set. You want your Monitor to turn off within a short period. It should not stay on forever.
