Unable to log on to Windows 7. Screen goes black after log on page.

Over the past 24 hours my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit PC refuses to allow me to log on. At startup it tells me that windows is starting, followed by "please wait".

On most occasions the screen goes black although the red light continues to flash for some time, suggesting ongoing activity. On other occasions the log on icon appears but before I can click on it to enter my password the screen again goes blank.

I have tried to do a startup repair using my Windows 7 disc but, when I try to boot from the CD, Windows tells me that it is loading files but the screen goes black after a few seconds.

I have used F8 to get into the startup options but whether I select Safe Mode or Last Known Good Configuration the screen again goes black. I have searched for a solution on line but all solutions offered depend on booting from a Windows disc or a system repair disc, neither of which will load. I cannot even do a fresh install as the Windows disc will not load.

I am loooking for some bright spark to give me a solution

Hi -- Try taking off the cover and make sure the video card is seated OK. Do that on memory also. Have you got another keyboard to try? Give those a whirl and check back. Thanks,
