    Stubborn Read Only Attribute

I can't remove the Read Only attribute from my files. I went to the command line and entered:

    attrib -R *.*

figuring that'd clear it for all the files in that folder, but it made no difference at all. What the heck is going on? Why would Win 7 set this bit anyway? This is causing a good deal of problems for me because the folder is now read only so I can't restore to it. This is a nightmare.

    Hello slide, :)

Just to verify, if the Read-only box doesn't have a check mark in it, the item is not set as read-only. See the blue note box at the top of the tutorial below to see if it may apply here.

I had it wrong then. I have a blue filled box. The error must be in the restore software because it is claiming no access to replace the files I want replaced from the archive. I have no idea what's up then, but it seems it's not with Win 7.

I'm working on an alternative now to fool the software into doing what I want. So far so good. Thanks for the response and the education.

As a test, use "Run as administrator" on the restore software to see if it may have access rights afterwards.

It was a good thought but in the end, a bust. No change when Run As Administrator was tried. I have many issues with this backup / restore software and won't use it again. I plan on using the native Windows backup instead.

    I'm truly annoyed.

If you like, the free Macrium Reflect is an excellent backup program.

Another option, that is bootable and provides full file and even bit-image backups painlessly, is Acronis True Image 2016.
