Possible to Link Two items in Taskbar?

This might seem like a weird request, and probably not possible.

I have two programs I run at work that are ALWAYS used together, but not used that often. When I need them I have to click both in the taskbar (yes I know not that difficult)

Is there some way to link two items in taskbar so that when you click either it brings up both windows?

Yes it's possible, but you'll have to create a batch file [.bat] to do it.

See if this video helps, it shows how to create the .bat from either a shortcut or directly from a program file:

The creator of this video "Chris" says you can save this shortcut anywhere, but you won't be able to drag it directly to the taskbar the .bat file needs a bit more schmoozing, and there are different ways to do that.

See: How to place a .bat file on the taskbar | google search

Anak has given you a good solution. That will probably meet your needs. If you ever need a bit more or you want to look into automating some tasks at work, see the info below.

I too open more than one app with one click...
...but I need the windows in a specific location.

    I use AutoIt* to...
    ...start app #1
...wait for the window for app #1 to appear
...position the window for app #1
...repeat the steps above for app #2

I use this app https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/.../cc817881.aspx to create 4 desktops. On desktop #2, I use an AutoIt script like the one mentioned above to open & position more than a dozen app windows (so that they are all in view at the same time). Those apps run all of the time on my work desktop. Desktops 3 and 4 are for my domain admin tools.

*The link is to a post with some info about AutoIt. Let me know if you want help writing/using a script to open (and maybe position) your two work apps.

Thank you for those kind words UNI, I just wanted to let the OP know of another way: Batch Files - Create a Menu to Execute Commands

Oh, and UNI if you're interested see: Is there a way to make one shortcut to open multiple apps in windows ?

That makes two threads from the same time frame, now all we need is one more........

For that other thread, it sounds like the OP was fine with starting a batch file that had a menu. After using a batch file like that for a while, I'm guessing that the OP would eventually think something like, "I want to run #9". The OP would then click on the batch file, hit 9 and then enter (all without reading the batch file's menu - which is fine). If the batch file's menu can be memorized, then so could keyboard shortcuts.

I would use keyboard shortcuts and avoid the batch file menu...
...but maybe there is a reason why those should not be used for that OP.

It is good to be employed these days

You might want to consider using a keyboard shortcut to start your batch file or AutoIt script.

You might find AutoIt useful in many other areas of your work...
    ...or maybe not
