    Winsxs is best left alone.

14 GB is not outlandish. Mine is nearly 12 and I have a tidy system.

I'd look elsewhere to free up space. Adjusting the page file; adjusting the space devoted to System Restore; eliminating hibernation; uninstalling unused programs, etc.

What "log folder"? What's the exact path to it?

If you mean C:\Windows\logs, mine is only 61 MB--less than 1 percent the size of yours.

You might benefit from downloading and running CCleaner.

When you ran Disc Cleanup, did you check the box that asks you if you want to include System Files? Do that, if you haven't.

You could also try Tree Size Free from here:

TreeSize Free - Quickly Scan Directory Sizes and Find Space Hogs

It will tell you what folders and files are using up your space.

I’ve done the disk clean system files before as well.
I’m looking at the cbs folder in the log folder
And I’m using a program like tree size already

Not sure what that installer folder is---I don't have one.

Regarding the CBS folder, it's clearly out of control.

You can look at the following link and Google as well.

large size CBS.log files creating, was never before

Seems odd that you don't have that hidden folder:

Maybe you use a lot of portable apps

Yes you do, it is a hidden protected operating system file.
You need to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" in Control Panel>> Folder Options to view it/them.

RE: WINSXS. As others have said - best to leave it alone. There is a way to save a little space:

I don't see that Installer folder on a fresh install W7pro64bit SP1 (Virtual Machine).

Most (all?) of the files that I see in there on this work laptop (the host to the Virtual Machine shown above) are related to Install Shield.

As an aside, I often look for file info in the Details tab of a file's Properties. For the first file that I encountered in the Installer folder, I found no useful details:

The next thing that I often do is send the file to notepad to see if I can glean any info from readable text in the file:

I've never seen a pattern like that
It repeats as one scrolls horizontally.
Word wrap was off and font was set to Lucida Console, Regular, 8.
