"apple mobile device service failed to start"

I am unable to install iTunes on Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex 780. It always errors out as "apple mobile device service failed to start" and then installation always rolls back. One result told me to remove all apple software on my computer, but I do not have any apple software installed, it always fails to install. a few websites mentioned to make sure that my iPod is not plugged into the computer when installing, I unplugged it, it made no difference. and there were websites telling me to just manually start the service, but every time I try I get a "unable to start service. the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" which pops up immediately. I also tried doing an SFC /scannow but it says "there are no integrity violations"

I am at a loss here. I even tried various alternatives to iTunes which all give errors of their own

    Any ideas?

Hello mate now I don't have a an answer but my partner has a very similar problem on her laptop - an annoying message t say that Apple Push has stopped.

It did get a little better by running these
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 by better I mean it got less frequent.

To be honest I am not an Apple fan and it seems to me it clutters everything up
