    COM surrogate

For the last week or so, about 10% of the time when booting, there's a window about COM surrogate. Information about this is not as clear or certain as I would like, and advice about what to do would be valued. TIA.

    Hi Tharwatime,
    can you run the following
    (from an elevated command mode)
    chkdsk, then
    sfc /scannow

    report the results.

    Hi Tharwatime,
So looks like your system is OK, sends me in the direction of your drivers.
Can you check your graphics card and your Bios.
As you've got a Dell, go to the page for your model, update from there.

Roy, I have no idea how to do any of the things that you advise. As the system is okay, might an easy option be to just ignore the message?
