Window 7 password I did not set

    hi
I hope to get some advice and perhaps some answers to question of why it happens
I bought a secondhand desktop pre loaded with Windows 7.
It worked great on the user account and it did not need a password to load Windows.
However I did some updates and did a hard reset
Upon reboot Windows now requires a password

I don't have the password as I never set one
I did not need a password when I did soft reboot ( restarts)

I'm now locked out of Windows as I don't know the windows password that I never set in the first place
I don't have the Windows 7 disk to repair Windows
I can enter the bios but I see that no passwords are set on the bios
I tried to enter boot via safe mode to command prompt but it still requires a password so I can't get into Windows to change a password that I never set in the first place
I don't have the means to make a password reset disk as I have no other Windows machine
I phoned the shop I bought the secondhand computer from but the owner is on leave for two weeks

What I need to understand is why does Windows insist on setting a password on preloaded "user accounts"
If the password was set by the computer guy at the secondhand shop Why did Windows suddenly decide to that password was needed when it was able to log into Windows previously without one

And finally and most importantly how the heck am I going to get logged into the machine with a password I neither know nor did I set it

    King regards

    Hi,
    That's a good question which there's no telling ?

If you ever do we can set you up with a iso to use so come back as soon as you do :)

You can also look into this to recover your personal files first before clean installing the 7,
Lucid Puppy way to recover files from a non-bootable computer

    Thanks again Mr Thrash
I might be British with a British accent but this is bull from Microsoft
I can't believe a password was set that I don't know and it was set without my knowledge
I was previously able to access the operating system and now I'm not
    It's very disturbing

    Thanks for your help sir

Never heard of Windows creating a password on it`s own, no matter how it was restarted.

We are not allowed to discuss password issues, but you can always try Google :)

You can use any computer at your disposal to create a Windows 7 install dvd or usb stick, as long as you can read the key on the COA, you are good to go.

The best thing you can do, if and when possible is to reinstall Windows.

@ Beachy. It seems that the password was set by the previous owner, as you mention that you bought it second hand. Now that you have done a hard reset it asking for that password again.

You have 2 alternatives. One is to completely reinstall Windows, as suggested in the other replies, or you wait until the previous owner returns from leave & hopefully they will be able to give you the original password.

There are programs out there that can reset the password but they cannot due to legal reasons not given out on this forum.
