Want to create a desktop shortcut to open Explorer...

Hi. I want to create a desktop shortcut that will open Windows 7 Explorer in a particular folder, with only a particular type of file displayed (*.dxp if it matters), so that a user only has to run the shortcut and then double-click on one of the files listed to run it via an association.

The best I've been able to do come up with so far is opening Explorer in the right folder.

Alternatively, is there a (hopefully freeware) program that will allow me to do what I want?

    Thanks, Peter

    1. Open the folder in which you want to search
    2. Use the search box to do your search for *.dxp
    3. Click Save Search on the toolbar

    Save a Search

Excellent, James - thank you. All I had to do over and above your solution was to find where W7 hid the shortcut and then drag it onto the desktop.

It took me a little while to work out how to arrange the search results by filename, though

    Thanks, Peter
