    Blank bios password problem

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I wasn't fully sure on the right place.
I just had a customer in who was having an issue reverting his Windows 8 laptop to windows 7 and I said I'd take a look at the bios settings.

Anyway while in there, all options for everything were greyed out so nothing could be changed.
The only thing I could do was change the password (he had a bios password originally), and when I looked online somebody mentioned resetting the password, so I thought there is nothing to lose.

I got him to type his bios password in and then as the new password I got him to hit enter twice to blank out the bios password.

We reset the machine, went to the bios and up popped the password field to my surprise. I hit enter and it came up as wrong. We tried the old password and that was also wrong.

Any ideas what this could be? I won't be seeing the person now until Friday, so I am looking for some good news before he comes in.
    The laptop is a Lenovo

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    Tried Upper/Lower case combinations?
Maybe a space at the beginning or ending?
    O instead of 0?

Bios passwords can be a real 'Booger'. I NEVER use them!

To completely clear the bios, and the password, remove the cmos battery for at least 20 to 30 minutes.*
If on a laptop, remove the AC line power and the main battery as well. On a desktop, unplug the line power.
Some motherboards even have a jumper that can zero out the password, but that's not so common.

    * While the cmos battery is out of the system, it's a good time to check it, with a good Digital VOM.
If the battery voltage is just barely 3.0v or less, replace it. A new CR2032 battery will be at 3.1x or even 3.2x. The more the better.
I change the cmos battery on any computer where it does not check out at over 3.0vdc. **

    Good Luck!

** I recently found the CR2032 battery at ACE Hardware, on a card containing 9 batteries, for just $1.50.
