Hi:

With the shift to cloud-based programs, Adobe confusingly changed the nomenclature for some of their software.

Adobe Acrobat READER DC is what used to be called Adobe Reader.
It is still free.
But it is only a READER

Adobe Acrobat (aka Adobe Acrobat DC) is the paid software that allows one to create and edit PDFs.
It is not free.

And, of course, there are many alternatives, both free and paid.
It depends on whether one wants to only READ the PDF files or to CREATE/EDIT them, as well as forms, etc.
Also, MS Office includes the built-in ability to save documents as PDF, as well.

I think Foxit Reader is going to work gini, thanks a lot. It works in Windows and Linux, which I use a lot!

At first it looked like it was just a reader and you needed the PhantomPDF 8.0 to Edit, but it is just what I needed!

I'm glad Foxit Reader looks like it will do what you want. I'm sorry, though, about the confusion concerning the Nitro program. You don't want Nitro Pro, just the free reader. I believe this is the correct link (but ithe download is available at many other sites):

This is one of the few PDF editors I have seen that is both free and allows you to create a PDF rather than just modifying an existing document. I have used it occasionally for a few years and it has remained free:

( Edit: when I say "remained free" I mean as new versions have been released it has not morphed into payware. )

Thanks again to everyone. I now will need to look at even more choices, and have learned much about the subject. Always hesitant to download stuff, especially to my new SSD Dual Boot install. It's more difficult to fix the dual boots if one has too. Last thing I want to have to do is revert to an old image if I get some Nagware etc. And, now know that the "Readers" are usually the ones that are Free, but didn't know that some of them also Edit! The ones labeled as Editors are usually advertised as Payed Versions.
