hide desktop icon how

Hardly an important issue but I would like, if possible, to hide or remove the little blue rectangular Desktop icon that lives on the edge of my screen just to the right of the clock in my Task Bar. Is this possible at all please and if so how would I go about it please? All and any help or...

Is there a way to hide or remove the desktop icon on a folder showing on the desktop so that the folder name only shows? I don't need to have the icons showing on the desktop , just the folder name. I do not want this option anywhere other than the desktop. Thanks SFM
